So… SFMOMA.

I love art. I’m not an art historian, but I make visual art and I’m easily affected by art. I love abstract art in particular! Or meta, ‘is this art’ art. I was excited to see the collection at SFMOMA.
And I did, in fact, enjoy many of the collection pieces.

However, the experience felt more overwhelming than I usually have at an art museum. The way-finding was tricky, despite the neat visitor guide. Placements of labels and floor plans were inconsistent, and made me feel foolish for not finding it intuitive.
I’ve found art museums meditative, and I’ve enjoyed just taking the ‘top layer’ of content, the tip of the iceberg. I don’t mind a lack of interactives, or a more lofty air. But I think other art museums that I’ve visited have made the experience more straightforward to follow as a visitor, while keeping the vibe ~ethereal.~ That way, people outside of the immediate art community can share in the fancy feeling of viewing an impactful work.
It was… hot today in SFMOMA, so after a while of walking around, I took a moment to drink some water and have a snack in the cafe. The cafe was pristine, all clean white lines and beautiful pastries. The fork I used was even fancy. I found this little guy:

Felt a bit like a piece of modern art.
